The Iowa Pet Breeders Association (IaPBA) began as a cooperative effort of seven determined women from across the state who saw the need for an organized voice for Iowa’s professional dog breeders. What started as a grassroots movement has grown into a statewide organization representing licensed breeders who are committed to doing things the right way.
Our mission is to advance responsible breeding, strengthen Iowa’s leadership in animal care standards, and support breeders through education, collaboration, and advocacy — so this industry can thrive for generations to come.
Iowa is one of only a few states in the nation with both licensing and regular inspections for breeding facilities. IaPBA members work within this regulated environment every day — raising healthy, well-socialized puppies while maintaining compliance with strong state and federal requirements. We take pride in being part of a state that holds professional breeders to a higher standard.
IaPBA leadership is guided by a Board of Directors made up entirely of licensed Iowa dog breeders. Because we face the same inspections, expectations, and challenges as every other licensed breeder, we are uniquely positioned to advocate for practical, real-world solutions that support animal welfare and business success.
Support Licensed Breeders
Through education, mentorship, and timely industry updates, we help breeders stay informed, compliant, and confident in their operations.
Protect the Future of Breeding in Iowa
We represent breeders when policies and regulations are discussed, ensuring lawmakers understand the realities of this profession.
Build Public Trust
Our website and breeder directory give families a reliable way to find licensed, responsible Iowa breeders — reducing scams and unlicensed sellers.
Grow Community
By connecting breeders across the state, we help share knowledge, improve facilities, and strengthen the reputation of Iowa’s breeding industry.
IaPBA hosts an annual multi-day conference that brings together veterinarians, product experts, inspectors, and experienced breeders.
We also support industry improvements through partnerships — including involvement with the Iowa Kennel Assurance Program and other organizations dedicated to animal welfare and professional standards.
Responsible breeders ensure that families can find healthy, well-socialized pets from people who care deeply about their dogs.
Together, IaPBA members lead by example — helping protect the future of professional breeding in Iowa.
If you are a licensed Iowa breeder, we invite you to join IaPBA and be part of the ongoing effort to support one another, strengthen our industry, and keep Iowa a leader in professional animal care.
